with the world teetering on the brink of some very bad economic juju, it's reassuring to know that the world of celebrity gossip seethes with life-affirming passion:
Ashton Kutcher, Demi Moore Marriage Troubles? : People.com: "Amid new tabloid reports of infidelity by Ashton Kutcher, and trouble in his marriage to Demi Moore, the two – who are currently on different coasts – have curbed their prolific Tweeting in some possibly telling ways.the epictetus quote is perhaps a bit pretentious in this context, but of all the verbiage contained in this article -- or is likely to ensue about the couple's marital travails -- it alone provides some intellectual heft to an otherwise lighter-than-air exercise in journalism.
On Sept. 23, Moore shared a quote from Greek philosopher Epictetus, writing, "When we are offended at any man's fault, turn to yourself & study your own failings. Then you will forget your anger." "
if only demi and ashton could somehow be extricated from this piece, might we finally be on an intellectual plateau from which the assorted numb-nuts out there in TV-land could contemplate matters weightier than the foibles of their all-too-human idols (american, too!)?
i can't say. or add anything insightful to lift the collective intellectual malaise we are in, here in the most exceptional land of the free. not when demi moore, bless her heart, already provided it in her choice of 151 character tweet.
now, will ashton perchance post some wienerish candid photos of himself, or is being half a man enough for now?
